From info at addressbookserver.com Mon Nov 2 09:21:14 2009 From: info at addressbookserver.com (Address Book Server) Date: Mon, 2 Nov 2009 01:21:14 +0000 Subject: [AddressBookServer] Address Book Server Message-ID: <68459501-5F7C-44B1-8928-6B0805EA0DD9@addressbookserver.com> It has been a while since my lost post on this mailing list and much has changes. We now support Tiger 10.4, Leopard 10.5 and Snow Leopard (10.6). A separate package is requires for 10.6 to support 64 bit. The feature set has also stabilised which has given me the opportunity to address some minor issues and problems. News and Updates The uptake of snow leopard seems to be quicker then originally expected. Given that there are several fields in the Address Book and iCal schema which could be sync'd, but are only available form 10.5 onwards I am tempted to drop support for 10.4. Existing users could of course continue to use the current version (26th August / 30th October) going forward. Free 5 User License Keys In October we gave away free 5 user license keys. This offer will be extended into November due to popular demand. Feel free to forward this message to all your friends and colleagues. Unfortunately we will not be able to offer the same premium level of support to those who take up this offer, as we simply do not have the capacity. Request your free license key here : http://www.addressbookserver.com/store/index.jsp Preview Release 30th October The development team has expanded and we now have one additional developer contributing to the project. The forth coming October release will include updated translations for German and Italian in particular on the web interface. Thanks to Marco for all the help with the Italian translation and Florian and others for the great effort with the German. Some users experienced difficulty restoring H2 backup zip files. The version of H2 has been updated to address this issue. Some new reports have been added to the web interface. One critical problem which occurred when users only selected a sub group in Address Book Client's interface has also been addressed. Please note that his release is still considered Preview and is still undergoing testing. Please report issues experienced with this release OpenSource If you have experience in Objective C and / or Java and would like to contribute to this project, or even if you know somebody who has some spare time available and is interested, please let us know. Growing the development team will allow for new features to be implemented quicker and better. If we manage to get enough developers contributing to this project there is a very good chance that from 2010 onwards this project will be available as open source. Up to very recently I have been the only developer working on this project, yet now I feel we have come to a state were additional input from other developers would be really useful and beneficial to the entire project. Updated Webserver After several years of service we had to perform some routine maintenance on our web server. This resulted in the web site and email being unavailable for several days during October. This has been completed and service has been restored. The mailing list has also been updated to the latest version and should hopefully work better then before. During November a public web based forum will also be added to the website to allow for public discussion of any issues and suggestions. With Address Book Server stabilising I am looking for suggestions about new projects to work on. For this reason I have set up a special forum section to allow you all to submit your requests, suggestions to build a wish lists. Wish List forum http://forum.addressbookserver.com/viewforum.php?f=11 Using polls on the forum will allow you to vote for already submitted features. Your submission don't have to relate to Address Book or even Address Book Server. What I am hoping to construct is a list of things you wish you had, to make your live easier. So if you have a need for a particular feature or just need and easy way to complete a task. It doesn't even have to be specific to the Apple Mac platform, and could be anything from a web application to an iPhone app. Looking forward to hear back form you Alex -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
